Plant description A species of perennial or annual belonging to the amaryllidaceae family. Is a vegetable, spice and medicinal plant usually known only under the generic name, as garlic. It comes from Central Asia, from where it was spread as a cultivated plant to Europe and northern Africa, with time it came to other continents. Garlic was domesticated and began to be grown about 5,000 years ago. Initially it was widespread in China, then in India. It gained great popularity in ancient times. Scientific discoveries in the 20th century confirmed many of the medicinal properties of garlic and strengthened its position as a medicinal and spice plant. |
