Properties - black cumin oil is produced from the seeds - seeds contain up to 40% fat, essential oils, saponin, tannins, bitterness - nigellin and alkaloid - damascein - has a choleretic, diuretic, carminative, antibacterial, analgesic, anthelmintic, anti-inflammatory, fungicidal effect, relaxes smooth muscles, increases milk secretion, improves digestion, regulates menstruation, lowers sugar levels and strengthens immunity - internally, the infusion of crushed seeds is used in catarrh of the larynx, bronchi and nose, in liver diseases, in gallstone disease, oliguria - infusions externally are used in the treatment of acne, atopic dermatitis and mycoses of the skin - in the kitchen, black cumin seeds - due to their sharp, spicy taste - used as a spice added to cheese, bread, and some fatty meats - in old Polish cuisine used, among others, for seasoning bread, e.g. flatbread, for sauerkraut and pickles - used as a substitute for pepper in diets that exclude the use of hot spices |
