Canchalagua is a herbaceous plant, growing wild in the mountainous regions of South America at an altitude of 2,000 to 3,000 m. It is generally found on slopes and hills in the bushes nearby farms. Its content of the active compounds has decided on its use in herbal medicine.
The properties attributed to Canchalagua govern the gastrointestinal tract. It is an important component of the diet in the fight against obesity. It lowers the level of glucose in the blood.
Canchalagua also has a diuretic effect, and thus contributes to cleansing the blood of toxins.
Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, this herb is used as supplement in treatment of kidney liver, bladder and gastrointestinal gallstone diseases, as well as in the treatment of allergies.
Applied externally, it helps - due to the active compounds - in the treatment of skin lesions. An infusion of the herb is used topically for blemishes and blackheads.
