Plant description

A species of perennial plant in the family of daisies. It comes probably from the Mediterranean but is  cultivated in many other countries. It blooms in May and early June.

Plants of this species grow to about 80 cm high. The species is highly variable - numerous cultivars have emerged which differ considerably in the size of plants and flowers.

Properties

- decoction has anti-microbial effect, stimulates menstruation, enhances secretion and purifies respiratory epithelium, antitussive, analgesic, sedative, diastolic, smooths gastrointestinal muscles and anti-tumor effect

- it is believed that it stimulates the detoxification process, enhances the secretion of bile and pancreatic juice

- used to protect the liver, inhibiting inflammation in joints and muscular tissue

- in the form of packs or washings it is used to treat atopic dermatitis

- attributed to the accelerated healing of inflammatory skin, hard healing wounds, ulcers and eczema

- used as a sedative, antibacterial, antiviral, protozoanic, acaricidal and fungistatic, as well as supportiing diuretic and menstrual

It has been used to eliminate or relieve anxiety, to overcome vegetative neurosis, and to systemic infections, skin, respiratory and urinary tract infections.
