Plant description

Roman chamomile flower (Chamomillae Romanae flos) comes from areas of the Azores, Algeria, Morocco, Portugal, France, Spain, Ireland, England, but also it spreads to other areas. It is usually grown, but often grows wild.

Dried flower basket is the herbal raw material. It contains essential oils (chamazulene, farnesene), flavonoids, phytosterols, caffeic acid and choline.

Properties

- has anti-contraction properties on smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract, relieves pain caused by contraction of the intestines

- stimulates the secretion of gastric juice - used for indigestion, lack of appetite, bloating, restores normal intestinal peristalsis and regulates bowel movements

- is used in inflammatory conditions of digestive organs

- a diuretic, diaphoretic

- acts anti-inflammatory, antifungal

- has a calming effect

- a subsidiary used in neuralgia - eg. migraine pains

- has antiallergic properties, used for infectious and allergic  skin diseases

- helps in the treatment of conjunctivitis or their exhaustion

- a supportive effect in the treatment of rashes, acne, erythema and redness

- used externally for sunburn in the form of compresses, lotions and bath, reduces swelling and redness resulting from insect bites and relieves pain of wounds and itching

- relieves nausea, relieves menstrual cramps, also supports the reduction of menopausal symptoms
