Properties MACA Maca has nutritional properties due to its high content of vitamins, minerals, proteins, essential amino acids, and sterols. It is especially used in instances of malnutrition and emaciation by disease, hard physical labor and age. Due to its valuable ingredients, maca has become an essential component of sportmen diets. The following effects are attributed to maca: - nutritional attributes and organism streghtening - improves the immune system - it is a natural source of protein (it contains high percentage content of arginine in its protein (11g. in 100g. of protein - the highest from all proteins used for supplement production) – therefore it is used as an energizer, aiding endurance and body muscle built - the activity of sterols contained in maca is partly similar to the effect of anabolic steroids - prevents insomnia and osteoporosis - thanks to prostaglandins, sterols and amids of polyunsaturated fatty acids it is considered to be an aphrodisiac - it delays the aging processes of the organism (skin and organs) - it supports memory and the ability to learn - it improves the brain work activity which is important in case of intensive intellectual work - it contains very high level of minerals which makes it an important diet supplement for hard manual and mental labor as well as in case of emaciation by disease - it regulates the hormon levels of thyroid, adrenals, pituitary gland and the gonads. It is used in treatment of irregular menstruation and disorders related to menopause and andropause - it increases the production of milk of breastfeeding women - it has adaptogenic properties - it individually adapts itself to the needs of a particular organism - indicated for use in geriatric TRIBULUS Some body builders use Tribulus terrestris as post cycle therapy or "PCT". After they have completed an anabolic-steroid cycle, they use it under the assumption that it will restore the body's natural testosterone levels. The extract is claimed to increase the body's natural testosterone levels and thereby improve male sexual performance and help build muscle. Its purported muscle-building potential was popularized by American IFBB bodybuilding champion Jeffrey Petermann in the early 1970s. However, Tribulus terrestris has failed to increase testosterone levels in controlled studies. In Ayurvedic pharmacology, tribulus terrestris is used as a powder form of the aerial parts, particularly the fruits and it is known in Sanskrit as gokshura, meaning the "cow's hoof". Gokshura is believed to contribute to overall physical, as well as sexual, strength by building all the tissues, especially shukra dhatu (reproductive tissue) but it is not considered as a particular vajikarana (sexual functions) herb. It is believed to be useful in kidney, bladder, urinary tract and uro-genital related conditions, where it is said to act as a diuretic. In traditional Chinese medicine Tribulus terrestris is known under the name bai ji li (白蒺藜) |
