Plant description

A species of perennial plant of the Lythracear family. It is common in damp habitats, on wet meadows, in ditches, in coastal wetlands, on wetlands, and on the banks of waters. It occurs throughout Europe and Asia in the belt from North Africa to the Arctic Circle. Dragged to Peru, Tasmania, Australia, Canada and the USA. In the United States, it is considered to be an agressive plant spread by settlers and spreading from the New England area since the 19th century. Currently it is found throughout the United States except Florida.
