Plant description Wira-Wira (vira-vira, Gnaphalium viravira) is also known as "rabbit ears" because of the characteristic shape of the leaves. It grows in Peru in mountainous areas. |

Effect The decoction from the leaves is used in respiratory diseases, particularly in diseases of the lungs and whooping cough. It is an expectorant. It is used in disorders of the bladder and prostatitis. As a diaphoretic it is taken in case of a fever. Indigestion is also an indication for oral administration of preparations from the leaves. Traditionally, it is recommended as a measure in detoxification treatments. In its chemical composition it contains flavonoid compounds, predominantly flavonoid glycosides and derivatives of quinic acid, by which it shows the following action: - helps in the treatment of respiratory diseases, particularly in diseases of the lungs and whooping cough - works as an expectorant - used for bladder dysfunction and prostatitis - works diaphoretically - used in fevers - used in diseases of the joints, in rheumatic diseases as a poultice of the heated leaves - with indigestion |
